2006 Sporting Clays Benefit Shoot
PIRATE KREWE AND GENERAL SCHWARZKOPF INVADE LAND O’ LAKES.
Ye Notorious Krewe of the Peg Leg Pirate, with help from Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf (Ret.), invaded the Deer Creek Sporting Clays venue in Land O’ Lakes for the “Get On the Good Foot” Benefit Shoot. Over 100 shooters joined in the good times and helped to raise more than $15,000 which will be used by the Krewe for the benefit of amputees.
Platinum sponsors representing Cardel Homes, Larkin Contracting Inc. and RingPower were joined by Gen. Schwarzkopf for a pre-shoot breakfast which was catered by Dinner’s Ready. During the delicious meal conversation ranged from dogs to homes to war and to amputees. The lively and open discussion brought many laughs and some serious, thought provoking moments. All agreed that it was a great way to start a day on the Sporting Clay course.
Then 100+ men and women took to the course with guns (and safety always on their minds). When it was all over and the scores tallied, Jesse Green from Valrico took home the Top Shooter Award. His team, sponsored by Suarez Housing Corp, took home top Team Award. Recognition was also given for Second Place Shooter and Team as well as Last Place Shooter and Team.
As door prizes, 50/50, and Chinese Auction Items were being announced the shooters all enjoyed a fully catered lunch provided by Roberts Meats and Catering. It was unanimously agreed that the lunch was great; the shooting, prizes and awards worth the cost; and, above all, the charity focus of the Krewe was one that everyone could support.
Thanks to photographers Karen Butterfield, Dean Hill, Ned Thompson, and Debbi Whitmer many pictures were taken and will be posted on the Krewe website. The Krewe members would all like to thank the many other businesses and organizations that helped to make this event such a success.
