PIRATE KREWE INVADES LAKELAND
Ye Notorious Krewe of the Peg Leg Pirate invaded the Tenoroc Shooting Sports and Training venue in Lakeland for the Fourth Annual “Get On the Good Foot” Benefit Shoot. Over 70 shooters joined the 30 Krewe members and 42 cadet volunteers from the Zephyrhills HS Jr. ROTC commanded by 1st Sgt. McCully. The ROTC provided a Color Guard and the National Anthem was sung by Ms. Kaylee Jaggie. The Krewe took in more than $17,000 with all net proceeds to be used by the Krewe for the benefit of amputees and their families.
With a continental breakfast provided for the shooters, the morning got off to a fine start with wonderful weather and new and old friends meeting again in support of this great cause. Mark, of Tenoroc Shooting Sports and Training, provided the safety talk and then the shooters, both men and women, took to the course with guns (and safety always on their minds). When it was all over and the scores tallied, John Curls, Sr. of Barney’s Pumps in Lakeland took home the Top Male Shooter Award and Shannon Bennett from the team of Tire Mania took home Top Female Shooter. The team sponsored by Barney’s Pumps of Lakeland took home top Team Award with the prior year’s winning team from Zephyrhills Water taking second place. Recognition was also given Last Place Shooter.
As door prizes, 50/50, and Chinese Auction Items were being announced the shooters all enjoyed a fully catered lunch provided by Mike’s Smokehouse BBQ and sponsored by Terry and Shirley Huber. It was unanimously agreed that the lunch was great; the shooting, prizes and awards worth the cost; and, above all, the charity focus of the Krewe was one that everyone could support.
