Ye Notorious Krewe of the Peg Leg Pirate has been very fortunate to have a base of supporters that believe in what we are doing and are willing to attend our fundraisers to assist us in acquiring the monies needed to serve our amputees.
Our first fundraiser (2004) was a yard sale held in Ruskin at the home of a member. Our members made donations after clearing out their garages and attics. We were very pleased with the $667 that was raised that afternoon. We also had a shoe drive at the request of the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office to benefit the migrant children.
In 2005 we held a Silent Auction at Gaspars Grotto in Ybor City. Live music and food was provided to those who joined us. The community was very gracious in their donations (see List of Sponsors). Through the work of some committed Krewe members we raised almost $2,000.
Hurricane Katrina came ashore in 2005 and the Krewe members were called to help by a friend of one of the members. We went to our supporters and were able to raise over $6,000 to buy supplies for those affected by the storm. With a rented U-Haul and three car loads of members, that money was put to good use over the 4 days that were spent handing out supplies, clearing fallen trees and helping wherever else we could be of assistance. In 2006 we began having our "Get On the Good Foot" Sporting Clays Benefit Shoot". These have become our major fundraiser each year. Every Krewe member gets involved in some way and provides all the support to put this event together. You can read more about these in the Sporting Clay section. Our last four "Shoots" have taken in over $96,000 to be used for our amputees.
The Florida Self Storage Association held their state-wide expo in Orlando in 2007. The theme for their social one evening was a pirate theme. Our Krewe was asked to attend in costume and provide the decorations for the event. The Association members also provided some wonderful items for a Silent Auction with all proceeds to go to the Krewe. We left Orlando with $5,000 in our booty chest. See pictures by clicking here.
Just recently (2009) the Krewe has joined forces with Xtreme Wear Glasses to market special sunglasses that are perfect for the active individual. A portion of each sale comes to the Krewe. This is all done online. Click here for more information.
