Adventure Camp, Inc. is a camp held each summer for children and adolescents with limb loss. Adventure Camp, Inc. was started in 1981 and has been held annually since that time during the month of August.
The camp staff includes amputee and non-amputee volunteers who are health professionals such as therapists, prothetists, orthotists and nurses as well as members of the communities which the camp serves. They volunteer their time to do the planning as well as provide the counseling and food preparation.
Adventure Camp Inc. is held at Camp Highroad in Middleburg, VA. They provide a variety of activities for the campers such as swimming, hiking, ropes course, zip wire, canoeing, fishing, golf, wall climbing, survival course, scavenger hunt, karaoke and archery just to name a few.
Five Krewe members visited the camp and put on a Pirate Party for the kids. Activities included decoration of pirate hats, making pirate "do rags", a treasure hunt, bead toss contest, guess the doubloons game and other activities that were enjoyed by all in attendance. At the conclusion of our Pirate time there, each camper was presented with a pirate booty backpack that contained all sorts of treasures as well as special pirate beads and a Certificate of Honorary Membership.
